Euro coins

The production and circulation of euro coins is not among the duties of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB). The Dutch versions of the euro coins are minted by the Royal Dutch Mint (Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt) on behalf of the Ministry of Finance. The distribution of coins is in the hands of the banks and private cash-in-transit companies. DNB does hold an emergency depot to cope with temporary ups and downs in the demand for coins.

Design

Euro coins come in eight denominations: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 euro cents and 1 and 2 euros. The euro coins have a common side and a national side. The common side is identical across the euro countries. The national sides are different for each issuing country. The common sides of the several coins was designed by Luc Luycx of the Royal Mint of Belgium and show different maps of Europe, surrounded by the 12 stars of the European Union, which symbolise the unity of the EU.
The national side of Dutch coins shows a portrait of Queen Beatrix designed by Bruno Ninaber van Eijben.
A complete overview of the euro coins, with their national and common sides, is available on the website of the European Central Bank.
