Using an authentication device

If you handle a lot of cash on a daily basis, you may want to use a banknote authentication device.

Autodetection devices

Autodetection devices indicate whether a banknote is genuine or suspect by means of a visible or audible signal. The Eurosytem tests authentication devices. More information can be found on the website.

Ultraviolet and infrared light

Although UV lamps and infrared cameras help you check security features, it is up to you whether or not to accept a banknote as genuine.

Note: Counterfeit notes with UV imitations are hard to distinguish from genuine notes if you use a UV lamp. Also use the look, feel and tilt method to check the authenticity of euro banknotes.
