Look, feel and tilt

How can you quickly check a euro banknote? Just use the simple look, feel and tilt method.

  • 1 Watermark

Hold the banknote up against the light. The building and the value numeral 50 should appear in the watermark. The numeral should be lighter. If you put the banknote on a dark surface, the watermark, especially the value numeral, should be darker.

  • 2 Raised print

Run your fingers across the front of the banknote. The striped area at the top of the banknote, the large numeral 50 and the line reading ©BCE ECB EZB EKT EKP can be felt clearly.

  • 3 Hologram

If you tilt the banknote, the number 50 will change to the building and the € symbol. The images are surrounded by colour effects.

  • 4 Colour-changing number

If you look at the back of the banknote and tilt it, the number 50 in the bottom right corner should change colour from purple to olive.
