Sustainable Finance Platform

The Sustainable Finance Platform is a cooperative venture of De Nederlandsche Bank (chair), the Dutch Banking Association, the Dutch Association of Insurers, the Federation of the Dutch Pension Funds, the Dutch Fund and Asset Management Association, the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, and the Sustainable Finance Lab. The aim of this platform, set up by DNB in 2016, is to promote and encourage a dialogue on sustainable finance in the financial sector.

Twice a year, the Platform members meet to discuss the new and ongoing sustainability initiatives in the Dutch financial sector. The aim of these meetings is to forge cross-sectoral links, to find ways to prevent or overcome obstacles to sustainable funding and to encourage sustainability by working together on specific topics. Sustainability is interpreted in the broadest sense of the word here, targeting all environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects of finance.

Activities
The Platform focuses on two main activities:

  • The biannual meeting of the Platform members to promote cross-sectoral knowledge sharing and coordinate sustainability initiatives.
  • Working groups to explore and develop new areas of activity/initiatives.

Working groups
The Sustainable Finance Platform comprises six working groups which each tackle a specific subject based on a cross-sectoral approach.

New working groups
The Platform or financial institutions can also set up new working groups.

Each working group is free to determine the subject, mandate, staffing, timelines and deliverables. Working groups seek to include representatives from various parts of the financial sector, and civil society organisations where relevant.

There are two conditions for setting up a working group:

  1. A member of the Executive Board of a financial institution must sponsor the working group and act as its public representative.
  2. Working groups must present their findings to the Platform, allowing it to provide feedback.

Agenda
The next Platform meeting is scheduled for:

  • 03 October 2017
