The National Numismatic Collection (NNC) comprises around 400,000 items. Its size and diversity make it one of the larger and more important numismatic collections in the world.

The NNC comprises banknotes, coins, medals and related items. The Netherlands section comprises items dating from the middle ages to the present day. It is the largest collection of Dutch numismatics in the world. There is also a section of Greek and Roman coins, and the NNC boasts one of the more extensive numismatic libraries with some old and rare publications, a large number of numismatic  magazines and auction catalogues.

In addition to DNB's private collection, and the collections on loan from the ministries of Finance and of Education, Culture & Science, a large number of items were received on loan. We also have major collections on loan from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Royal Archives and the Netherlands Economic History Archive.
