Featured statistic: EUR 112 billion

During the first quarter of 2006 the balance sheet total of Dutch collective investment schemes rose to EUR 112 billion, the highest figure in four years (see Chart).

Low net deposits in investment schemes (EUR 674 million) contributed only little to the increase of the balance sheet total. Chiefly responsible for the EUR 4.9 billion increase (representing 4.6% growth on a quarterly basis) was the bullish stock market sentiment, with equity funds the largest single contibutor.

For the past four years, the volatility in collective investment schemes’ balance sheet totals has been largely determined by stock market prices. Average investment behaviour has been reserved during this period, with only small amounts being deposited.
