Featured statistic: EUR 225 billion
Date 27 June 2006
Dutch households held savings balances totalling EUR 225 billion in savings accounts with Dutch banks at the end of April 2006.
The bulk of this amount, over EUR 200 billion, is in balances redeemable at short notice (including Internet savings accounts). Almost 10% of total savings is held in the form of term deposits.
Despite the continued increase of Dutch households’ total savings, the rate of growth has followed a declining trend in recent years. In April, the twelve-month increase of savings deposits came out at 6%, while in 2004 and 2005 annual growth had averaged 9% and 7%, respectively.
