If you wish to exchange banknotes with a combined value of EUR 2,000 or more, or a large number of coins, you should first send a reimbursement request by email to omwisselverzoek@dnb.nl. Please await our response before visiting the exchange counter or sending banknotes or coins by mail.
We handle all requests carefully. We will check whether the coins and banknotes are genuine, and whether you are on any sanctions lists. We will also ask you
You are eligible for reimbursement if all conditions are met. We will determine the value of the banknotes and coins you submit and credit the corresponding amount to your bank account, usually within one month. If we need more information, it may take longer. Alternatively, when you take your banknotes and coins to the exchange counter, you may ask for reimbursement in cash.
We may decide not to reimburse you, for example if we suspect that the money is related to a criminal offence such as theft, drug trafficking or money laundering You may lodge an objection against our decision. Please note that we may be obliged to report suspect transactions to the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU-NL).
We may confiscate banknotes you submit, for instance if we suspect they were damaged on purpose, or if we suspect that they are related to a criminal offence. In the latter case, we may hand them over to the investigative authorities.
