Resolution of financial institutions
If a large bank or insurer fails, it must do so in a controlled manner so that consumers retain access to their bank account or insurance, the problems do not spread to other financial institutions and the government does not have to step in with taxpayers’ money. DNB has the task of ensuring this. This task is called resolution. All bank balances up to EUR 100,000 per person per bank are protected by the Deposit Guarantee Scheme. DNB performs these tasks in its capacity as the national resolution authority and the DGS authority.
