Pursuant to Article 7 of the External Financial Relations Act 1994 (Wet financiële betrekkingen buitenland 1994 – Wfbb), residents must submit information and data to DNB that are relevant to the compilation of the Dutch balance of payments. DNB has elaborated the reporting requirements in the Balance of Payments Reporting Instructions 2003 (RI 2003).
The purpose of the RI 2003 is to ensure that DNB meets its obligations to the European Central Bank in terms of balance of payments and international investment position statistics. The data and information DNB requests for the purpose of compiling the Dutch balance of payments are also used to determine the international investment position of the Netherlands.

Dutch investors started off well in 2023 – in the first quarter, the value of investments held by Dutch households increased by €7.8 billion. Despite the turmoil in financial markets, Dutch households also invested more in equities and bonds issued by banks.

De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) imposed an administrative fine of €47,500 on IJmond Corporate Solutions B.V. (IJCS) on 4 February 2020. The administrative fine is imposed because IJCS did not have two directors from 1 July 2019 until at least 19 August 2019.
