Eligibility requirements for collateral
DNB provides monetary and intraday credit and offers specific services based on appropriate collateral. We also manage the collateral pledged to us by counterparties for this purpose. We call this collateral management.
Monetary and intraday credit
We provide monetary and intraday credit. Credit must always be covered by sufficient and adequate collateral in accordance with Eurosystem regulations. We manage the collateral pledged by counterparties in our monetary collateral pool, and are responsible for transaction processing and corporate actions. This may include collecting dividends and transferring the proceeds to the counterparty’s T2 payment account. We charge a custody fee and transaction costs for these services.
Only assets that meet the Eurosystem’s eligibility criteria may be used as collateral. This applies to collateral in the monetary pool. Additional eligibility criteria may apply to collateral in the second collateral pool.
A distinction is made between two categories of eligible collateral:
Tradable assets
These are assets traded on regulated markets such as bonds and securitisations.
Non-tradable assets
These are not traded publicly and include credit claims (bank loans) or fixed-term deposits. The eligibility criteria for these assets are set out in the Eurosystem’s General Documentation (GD) Guideline and Haircut Guideline (HG). Key factors include a minimum credit rating set by a recognised rating agency, the level of subordination, the place of issue and the denomination of the assets.
