Yes, we are. On a regular basis, scammers send out emails in our name to trick you into giving them personal data, your bank account number or log-in codes. Likewise, they misuse our name and logo in emails they send in the name of other organisations. This type of scam is commonly referred to as "phishing”.

If you don’t trust an email, text or Whatsapp message from DNB, take a picture or screenshot of the message and then delete it. Do not click on links or open any attachments. Also, do not respond to any campaigns or invitations. We will never ask you to give any personal details by email, text message or telephone.

If you did click a link or open an attachment, malware or a virus may have infected your computer. If you have given personal details or passwords, change these passwords immediately. If you have given your bank details, contact your bank. You can also report the incident to the police.

Phishing emails often look like they are from an organisation you trust, but they typically contain errors and other clues. There are some signs that will help you recognise a phishing email: Perform the following checks:

• Check the sender. Any emails that we send come from an email address ending in @dnb.nl.
• Check the greeting: if the email has a generic greeting, it is probably a phishing scam.
• Check the text for unusual wording and typing errors. Phishing emails often contain such errors.
• Check whether the sender wants you to act quickly: scammers often try to pressure you.
• Check all links in the email. Hover your mouse over them without clicking. This will display the full text of a link. Some email programmes will display it at the bottom of your screen. If it does not refer to dnb.nl, the email is probably a phishing scam.

Also, watch out for a fake email in Dutch containing the name and fake signature of Executive Board Member Olaf Sleijpen. Scammers want you to scan a QR code to obtain "3D secure security". Do not respond.

• Report it to us at valse-email@dnb.nl. Please include the fake email as an attachment. This retains key technical information about the scammer's working methods.
• If you report a fake text or Whatsapp message, please include a screenshot of the message in your email.

This will help us understand the scope and severity of the scam and allow us to take prompt action. You can delete the message after you have reported it to us.

We never send out text or Whatsapp messages asking you to go to a particular website or log in to your bank’s website. In addition, you can tell whether a message is a scam by performing the following checks:

• Check the greeting: if the message has a generic greeting, it is probably a phishing scam.

No, we are not. The App Store and Play Store feature certain gambling apps claiming that De Nederlandsche Bank pays out prize money. These claims are fraudulent. DNB has absolutely nothing to do with these apps.

Likewise, they misuse our name and logo in messages they send in the name of other organisations. Or they mention the name or one of our Executive Board Members. This type of fraud is called phishing. By fishing for your data, they try to steal your money.
