Supervision of cash handlers - Enforcement policy
The purpose of the applicable rules and regulations is to enable market participants to recirculate euro banknotes in an environment that provides adequate protection against counterfeiting. DNB is mandated to supervise compliance with these rules and regulations and has legal powers and enforcement tools to promote such compliance.
By letter of 18 March 2014, DNB informed all head offices of multi-store supermarket chains, individual retailers and other parties using cash machines to deposit surplus cash about the ensuing obligations and the enforcement policy in the case of non-compliance.
The enforcement policy will be published in the Dutch Government Gazette (handhavingsbeleid Staatscourant - 15 May 2014).
Since the enforcement policy applies to all cash handlers, DNB will also notify credit institutions and cash sorting centres of the policy in April/May 2014
