You can temporarily exchange Croatian banknotes for euros at DNB. The reason is the introduction of the euro in Croatia. The exchange rate: 7.53450 kuna = 1 euro.
We do not charge a fee for the exchange. You may exchange a maximum of HRK 8,000 per person per day. This service is available at our Cash Desk in Haarlem from 2 January to 28 February 2023 and is by appointment only. Ring us on +31 20 524 2727 on weekdays from 9:00-12:00 to make an appointment. Bring your ID with you when you visit the Cash Desk. Note: We do not exchange Croatian coins, only banknotes.

This is evident from the annual survey commissioned by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) on the acceptance of cash. Research agency Locatus visited more than 5,000 retailers and 1,000 market stalls across the Netherlands in 2025 to take stock of the payment options they offer.

The number of fraudulent transactions involving bank transfers, card payments and cash withdrawals in the Dutch payments system rose by 30% in 2025 to approximately 658,000. As is evident from figures published by De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) for the first time today.
