Olaf Sleijpen

Short bio

Olaf Sleijpen is President of De Nederlandsche Bank. He is also a member of the Governing Council and General Council of the European Central Bank (ECB), a member of the European Systemic Risk Board, and a Governor of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Since 2007, he has been a Professor of European Economic Policy at the Maastricht School of Business and Economics. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peter Elverding Chair on Sustainable Business Regulation and Corporate Culture at Maastricht University. In addition, he has been secretary/treasurer of the Royal Netherlands Economic Association (KVS) since 2020.

Sleijpen joined DNB’s Executive Board in February 2020. As the director of Monetary Affairs, he was responsible for economic policy and research, financial stability, financial markets, payment systems and market infrastructure, cash operations and statistics. From 2011 to 2020, he worked as DNB’s Divisional Director of Supervision.

Education

Olaf graduated with honours in economics at the University of Maastricht in 1992. He obtained a doctorate in economics at the University of Groningen in 1999.
