Insurers

DNB publishes macroeconomic statistics on Dutch insurers. DNB also supervises the Dutch insurance sector and publishes supervision data about Dutch insurers. This dashboard provides information on these two tasks.

The Insurers (macroeconomic) dashboard provides statistics compiled according to internationally adopted guidelines for statistical purposes. This data provides insight into the insurance sector's contribution to the Dutch economy and its relationships with other sectors and with foreign sectors. One example is an analysis of the combined investments of insurers operating in the Netherlands and Dutch-based branches of foreign insurers.

The Insurers (supervision) dashboard provides data collected in the context of prudential supervision of individual Dutch insurers. This includes data on insurers' capital requirements and own funds.

Different dashboards that have their own definitions

Macroeconomic statistics and supervisory data each have their own definitions and concepts. As a result, seemingly similar magnitudes may differ numerically.

For example, insurers’ assets are higher according to macroeconomic statistics than according to supervisory data. The main reason for this is that derivatives, loans and other assets are shown on a gross basis in macroeconomic statistics, whereas they are netted in supervisory data.

In addition, there is a population difference. Dutch-based branches of foreign insurers are included in macroeconomic statistics but not in supervisory data. Conversely, foreign-based branches of Dutch insurers are part of the supervisory population but not part of the macroeconomic statistics.
